Privacy Policy
YouTube Indifference browser extension · Effective 7 October 2026 (updated 7 October 2026)
YouTube Indifference adds an "Indifferent" button between Like and Dislike on YouTube video pages and shows how many people have pressed it. This policy explains exactly what data the extension uses.
What the extension sends
- An anonymous ID. When installed, the extension creates a random ID (for example
3f2a…). It is not linked to your name, email, Google or YouTube account. - The ID of the video you are watching. When you open a YouTube video, the extension asks the server for that video's Indifferent count, sending the video ID and your anonymous ID so it can show whether you have already voted.
- Your vote. When you press or un-press Indifferent, the extension sends the video ID, your anonymous ID and whether you voted.
What is stored
- On the server: one record per vote, containing the video ID, your anonymous ID and the time of the vote. Removing your vote deletes that record. Count lookups are not stored.
- In your browser: your anonymous ID and a copy of YouTube's Like icon, used to draw the button. If you use Chrome or Firefox sync, the anonymous ID is also saved in your browser's sync storage, so it stays the same when you reinstall the extension or use it on another device signed in to the same browser account. This sync is provided by your browser; the extension's server never sees it.
What is public
Total Indifferent counts per video are public, at /indifference.txt on this server, as one line per video in the form video URL : count. Anonymous IDs are never published.
What the extension does not do
- It does not read your YouTube account, watch history, comments or any personal information.
- It does not use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking.
- It does not sell or share data with anyone.
- It only runs on youtube.com and only talks to its own server.
Hosting
The server runs on Cloudflare Workers with a Cloudflare D1 database. As with any website, Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver requests; the extension's server does not store it.
Removing your data
Un-press Indifferent on a video to delete that vote. Uninstalling the extension deletes your anonymous ID from your browser (and, if you use browser sync, clearing your browser's synced data removes it from there too); any votes left on the server can no longer be linked to you. To ask for votes to be removed, use the support link on the extension's store page.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date.
